Nominations for the Award for the Advancement of Free Software

  • Posted on: 5 October 2016
  • By: zakkai

This award is presented annually by FSF president Richard Stallman to an individual who has made a great contribution to the progress and development of free software, through activities that accord with the spirit of free software. Nominations for this award and the Award for Projects of Social Benefit are now open. Submit your nominations by Sunday, November 4, 2018, at 23:59 UTC.

Eligibility

  • Only individuals are eligible for nomination for this award (not projects).
  • Individuals who describe their projects as "open" instead of "free" are eligible nonetheless, provided the software is in fact free.
  • Previous winners (full list) are not eligible for nomination, but renomination of other previous nominees is encouraged.
  • Current FSF staff and board members, as well as award committee members, are not eligible.

If your nomination does not meet these criteria, you may wish to instead submit a nomination for the Award for Projects of Social Benefit, which has distinct eligibility criteria.

Nomination Information

Please include Web addresses for materials which support your nomination and allow the nominating committee to verify eligibility. For example: software, manuals, or writing about the work of the nominee. Limit: 500 words

We will never publish or share your information with any party outside the FSF. See our privacy policy for more information.
