This award is presented to an individual newcomer who has demonstrated an outstanding dedication to software freedom, through activities that accord with the spirit of free software.
Nominations for this award, the Award for Projects of Social Benefit, and the Award for the Advancement of Free Software are now open.
- Only individuals are eligible for nomination for this award, not projects.
- Individuals who describe their projects as "open" instead of "free" are eligible nonetheless, provided the software is in fact free.
- Current FSF staff and board members, as well as award committee members, are not eligible.
- Nominees are only eligible for the award if their first significant contributions to a free software project were made within roughly a year of this announcement.
If your nomination does not meet these criteria, you may wish to instead submit a nomination for the Award for Projects of Social Benefit, or the Award for the Advancement of Free Software which have distinct eligibility criteria.
Please include Web addresses for materials which support your nomination and allow the nominating committee to verify eligibility. For example: software, manuals, or writing about the work of the nominee. Limit: 500 words
